As a stop along the St. Patrick’s Day Parade route, Pat Gillen’s bar (advertised in 1957) was a popular destination but it stayed busy year round. It was located in the same shopping strip as Metairie Tune Up Center (2010), Chocolate Soup (a children’s clothing store) and a branch of the National Bank of Commerce. These were demolished during the 1990s to make way for an AmSouth Bank branch (now a Regions Bank branch).
