In the 800 block of Metairie Road, this shopping center has stood for decades. Here is a 1962 view of Woolworth’s (later Katz & Besthoff now Rite-Aid), Norge Laundry & Cleaning Village, and Winn-Dixie (now Langenstein’s grocery). The complex included a McKenzie’s and a Katz and Besthoff drug store that was near the entrance to the center (now PJ’s Coffee). During the 1940s an H.G. Hill Store was at 806 Metairie Road.
