In this 1941 view of West End (looking toward the city) we see the U.S. Army base hospital and LaGarde General Hospital in the left background. Note the New Basin canal on the right. The building in the foreground would later become "Bart's" owned by Sherwood "Big Wheel" Bart. Compare this view to the 1937 nighttime photograph on page 100.
